Chip tray

Bowl

Pool noodle, green

Liquid nails clear silicone, gorilla glue, or a hot glue gun

PVC Pipe

Wooden Dowel

Foam for leaves

Materials for any other decoration you want to add

Knife

Miter box, if you have one

Hacksaw or this tool (optional) if you need to cut PVC pipe

How to Make Pool Noodle Flowers

  1. Using a hot glue gun, Gorilla Glue or Liquid Nails, glue the bowl to the center of the chip tray. Allow it to dry.
  2. Glue the chip tray to the top of the pool noodle. Prop it up and allow it to dry.
  3. Cut the green foam pieces into a leaf shape and glue them to the pool noodles for the leaves. Let them dry.
  4. Add any other decorations to your flower. We added small pool noodle pieces and a piece of blue foam to the center of the pink noodle in place of the bowl.
  5. Use the hacksaw and miter box to cut the PVC pipe to 3 feet unless yours is already that size. Smooth ends with a reamer so it will slide easily through the pool noodle.
  6. Put the PVC Pipe into the noodle.
  7. Hammer the wooden dowels into your yard
  8. Slip the pool noodles over the dowels.
  9. Step back and admire your beautiful Giant Pool Noodle Flowers!

Tips

WEIGHT

The larger chip tray can make the giant flower very top heavy.

The PVC Pipe helps give firmness to the noodle so it can stand up with the weight of the Chip Tray on top. A more realistic look is obtained when the top is left to sway just a tad.

Opting for a smaller chip tray and the alternate decoration in the center, like the pink one in this photo, allows it to stand up without as much effort and support.

Place your flower into a pot filled with sand or dirt to give it a strong base.

GLUE

I used Gorilla Glue, Liquid Nails and a hot glue gun when making these DIY Giant Flowers. The hot glue gun actually held the best and was easiest to work with.

To avoid melting the pool noodle, put your glue on the other part you are adding, then press it into the noodle after a few seconds so that it’s cooled down just a bit.

SUPPLIES

The Chip & Dip Trays and plastic bowls shown below are from Amazon to show you an example. You can buy them from Dollar Tree for $1 each.

There are other things you can use in place of the PVC Pipe, such as rebar, a rod from a wooden clothes drying rack or any other material that fits inside the noodle and gives is some stiffness.

You can also add decorations – a bee or bug on the flower, or make it part of an entire “garden” of pool noodle plants and flowers.
