Easy Pool Noodle Garland Decoration

This pool noodle garland makes a great decoration for a pool party, 4th of July party or BBQ, or any other festive, fun occasion.

We made a string of garland to decorate for our 4th of July BBQ. It turned out really cute, don’t you think?

We added our Rocket Centerpiece and our Firecracker Centerpiece to our table.

This made for an inexpensive, but awesome way to decorate for our party.

The pool noodles can get wet, too, so when it rained on our day, our decorations stayed in place and weren’t ruined!

How to Make a Pool Noodle Garland

What you’ll need:

Pool Noodles

String

Star garland or other decoration for “in between”. (optional)

Knife or Saw

Mitre Box

Scissors

Directions

First, choose 2-3 noodles in colors that will complement your party decorations.

The more noodles you have, the longer your garland will be, of course.

So, you might want to measure the place you’re going to hang it to figure out how long it needs to be.

We were hanging ours around our deck canopy, so we measured and decided how many noodles it would take to have it the area in question.

We used some fun red & blue cord along with the string.

We wanted it to show so we didn’t make the noodles tight – we left some spaces at the ends so we could see the string, too.

After all, the string was our “white” portion of “red, white & blue” decoration.

Next, use your miter box to cut the noodles into slices.

How thick to cut them is up to you.

If you don’t know how to cut pool noodles using a miter box, you can read our tutorial How to Cut Pool Noodles.

We used 1.5 in slices for the smaller blue noodle and 1 inch slices for the red.

Then, run the string through the holes in your noodle pieces, leaving a foot or two at the end for tying it up. (And to keep your noodles from falling off as you string them.)

Finally, add any garland or “in-between” decorations you’d like.

We added little pieces of star string garland in between some of the noodle pieces.

Tips

Tie the ends of your garland together to store and transport them to keep your garland from falling apart.

Leave enough string at the ends to hang the garland and have it “droop” a little, and also enough to tie it up.

Use a smooth string if you want the garland to slide and hang towards the middle.

Use a rougher twine if you want to “set” the noodle pieces and have them stay in one place.

Have fun with this project! There are so many ways to decorate with pool noodle garland!
